Andres Iniesta has claimed that the current Barcelona side is the best he has ever played in.

During an interview with FIFA.com on Thursday, the 27-year-old put forward his theory that the club has undergone a phase of continuous evolution since the early 2000s, and its eventual success is simply a culmination of their efforts over the past decade.

"I believe this is the best Barca team I’ve ever played in," proclaimed Iniesta. "That's down to the way our play evolves, with the teams getting stronger every year. The challenge facing us is to improve day after day, year after year, something we've done in every respect – tactically, physically and technically."

Iniesta was then quizzed on his role within the Barcelona set up, which has slightly diminished since the recent acquisitions of Cesc Fabregas and Alexis Sanchez, combined with coach Pep Guardiola's increasing use of a 3-4-3 formation.

However, the midfielder fully acknowledges the sacrifices needed to make a successful team.

"All of us want to be on the pitch, and the longer the better, but the coach knows what he wants," he continued.  "What matters is that we all contribute so as to have the best chance of winning honours. It's a question of squad management, and that’s something I understand."

The 2010 World Cup winner then discussed the idea of the Catalan giants gradually losing motivation to keep up with its recent trophy haul, having won everything that there is to win under Guardiola's reign since 2008.

However, Iniesta dismissed the notion, insisting that the most satisfying challenge will be defending their silverware, as their rivals have now begun to carry a greater threat.

"That’s easy; you never tire of winning and you can better face challenges when you’re winning, not losing," he maintained. "The problem, if I can call it that, is that now our opponents prepare [for us] better and it gets harder. But that’s part of the challenge and something I thrive on."
